The basic definition is if a baby who is born prematurely is continuing to require either oxygen orventilator support at 36 weeks corrected gestational age, that baby is generally defined as having BPD.Neonatologists today work very hard to try to minimize the risk of developing BPD. The things that we docurrently include judicious use of oxygen. We also try to maximize the baby's nutritional needs. We try to weanthem from ventilators.
